Will I need to upgrade soon??

I hate to put in another "rate my PC" type thread. But I do need advice. I built my PC years ago, specifically to play Crysis when it came out. I'm still using the exact same PC, for the most part. It seems to be able to handle anything I throw at it; although the witcher 2 it has a hard time with. (Crysis 2 is cake)

I'm horrified to know that I'm going to need to upgrade eventually; but should I wait? Or is it time? I put so much money into this blasted thing.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are my system specs:

Windows 7 64 bit

Intel core 2 extreme 3.0 ghz

6gb DDR2 RAM

AOC 30' monitor

300 gb HD, 500 gb HD, and 1 TB HD

600 watt toughpower

Nvida 680i SLI motherboard

Ultra chill tec cooling system

Mad Dog TF-DVDRW

2 x Geforce 8800 GTXs

Merc Stealth keyboard

Razer Lachesis mouse

Big ass black tower with 3 built-in USB ports on front

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Should I hold off? Or should I drop a ton of cash into a brand new rig? It seems to be working fine with any game I try. Except for the Witcher 2. Damnit. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I just scanned my system with some program, and it turns out I only have 6 gigs of RAM. Sorry about that.

You can wait till the next series of GPUs release.
Your CPU is not bad, you can try overclocking it also.Your memory is enough.

And if you built this at the time of release of Crysis then the 8800GTX SLI must have costed you a fortune.
Anyways if you cannot wait till the next GPU series - then you can only upgrade your GPU for now and it will be good to go.

You may want to consider upgrading to a motherboard that can still support your CPU and graphic cards, but supports DDR3 RAM. That's really the only thing I see that would be slowing it down, but upgrading your MoBo just for RAM... might as well upgrade the whole thing! See if anyone you know would like to purchase your system, so you can build a new one. Exact thing I'm doing.

The GPU's! The most expensive thing of course. I tried finding out if there was anything REALLY better than what I have on the market, and the comparisons I saw showed only a slight increase in graphical capability. Not worth 1000 bucks for another two! Are there some GPU's I should know about? Price-wise, and performance-wise?

As for selling this thing... gosh I don't even know how much to charge. I think it's cost me more than my car. Should I just wait until something supremely better comes along? From my miniscule research, I can't find anything that blows it away. But then again, I really don't know much about this topic.

EDIT (again): Since I can add 2 more gigs of RAM; would that help? Would there be a noticeable difference gaming wise?

If you're in love with two cards, I can't help you. But a single 6950 will outperform your two 8800s, I think. And two 6950s would be about $500.

I read somewhere that the GTX 560 is better for about the same price? Would your 6950 work with my motherboard? (680sli) And; can you sli those? Sorry I have so many questions. I don't know much about this; and any advice is better than making a decision on my own at this point.

My gawd your guys' computers make mine look like utter garbage. How long until you upgrade? Do you EVER plan on upgrading? I mean. I often think my pc is better than a playstation 3, but yours make the playstation 5 look like crap!

What is your budget?

680i support SLi, not crossfire. So you can dual nvidia, not amd

1. Get a good heatsink, overclock your CPU.
2. Upgrade your Video card. May be GTX 570?

My budget is probably less than 500 dollars for the next 6 months. I'm thinking I should wait until some newer cards come out, and I have more money. Then I can just SLI something instead of having 1 card. BUT; is SLI really worth it? Is it THAT much better?

you will always be better off running a single powerful card than 2 medium cards. a GTX570 will cut through most new games like a hot knife through butter. Even a GTX560 would give you decent performance.
best thing to do is to get one card that you like, test its performance, and if you think it is not as powerful as you like, SLI then. This way you dont waste money on 2 cards if one will do.
