I have an older comp that has a pentium II processor in it. I am new to cpu stuff and i want to get a new cpu, if i where to buy a pentium 4 would i be able to get it working in this older comp?

there's no way a P4 will fit in any P2 socket, some of the P2's weren't even directly attached to the motherboard. You will need a new motherboard and new compatible ram. You will likely need a new PSU for the new motherboard's pins. And the case might not work either, can't tell you that for sure but its quite possible. So not literally everything (you can keep the mouse/keyboard/disk drives) but basically everything yeah.

Like they said above, your power supply doesn't even have a Pentium 4 power plug, that goes right into the motherboard, so pretty much, your going to need to buy some new stuff.

NO!!!!

If you have a socket 370 board and you've undated your bios then you might be able to use a 1 Gig PIII but nothing more that's practical.

O, so there is no way i can upgrade my cpu without changing everything?
Sure you can. Just not with that particular setup

just the mother board, possible psu, ram maybe, but not EVERYTHING
Changing the mobom psu and ram is damn near everything though (albeit not everything in a literal sense)

Which P2 were?
