I have a geforce 256MB 5700 fx. will this be able to get the maximum graphics on half life? Everything else on ym comp is fine to run it, just not sure on the card.

prob not not really familiar with tthat card but the FX series was a flop

I'll have to agree here. but you will be able to play the game just fine if you set your expectations just a little lower and lower some of those settings :-). My system is set with MAX settings In game as well as through card prefferences and I get some slow down here and there and now and again :-).

Not the complete max but some setting can be jacked up high

well amazingly i can seriously run hl2 on high and i just got 256 5200fx but it lags on complicated graphics ie. a bunchg of melons exploding and explosions and my specs are a lil worse than urs so u shoudl be fine, its not as good graphicly as doom3, doom3 just uses alot of amazing effects and hl2 basicly uses lifelike textures ie walls floors, so u shoud lplay on high and play a lil better than i do but its not bad at all on mine just a lil anoying sometimes

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhh huh, at what resolution?

i play on 1024x768 32 bit i got 768 ram and a 2.6ghz p4 and yes it seriously does play very very nicely except on massive explosions and stuff lol

What kinda framerates are you getting with that 5200? Certainly less than ... (eyeballs it) ... 10fps

The test was done on NorthwoodC-2.8 @ 1024x768

Well, Half-Life 2 is slightly less graphic heavy than Doom 3 but according to gamespots benchmarks the 5700 runs doom 3 @ 640x480 on mid-settings @16.5fps :(

Since the games are totally different (principle, implementation, technical), the comparision is slightly difficult.

lower

I had to lower alot of things just to be able to play it......setting of mine are not real close to the"max" level :o

i may be able to help you since i own the card..... no you wont be able to play with max settings(well, you can but it will get choppy at times), but you can put it up to decent setting and it will run pretty darn smooth.

I'd agree...you should do OK 1024*768 32-bit, NO AA or AF, v-sync off, and closer to medium settings. Some might do ok on HIGH, jsut don't expect like 100FPS or anything lol.

I can do it too

I've got a FX 5500 256MB and I can also run HL2 on high, with EVERYTHING ed up to max, and the only times I ever expirience slowdown are after a loading point. When this happens, I just let the game sit for 5-10 seconds, and then I can play it with little to no lag. The wierd thing is that when I first got the game, I had it on low*. Then I turned the stuff up to medium after about an hour and a half of playng, and then after about three hours, I pushed everything up to high slowly, first the textures, then the shadows, then the water effects, then the lighting, and I expirienced still great preformance. The even wierder thing is that when I first got the game, and had it on low, I turned it up to high and was probably getting 10 FPS with very noticable lag. I don't mean to hijack, but I think this was kinda unusual and am wondering why if anyone knows. But yeah, a 5700 FX should do even better than mine has.**

*This was the first game I had played on it, only the second day we had had it.
**At 1024*768 resolution with 32 bit color

'Playable' is a very wide concept, personally I don't find anything below 30-35fps playable, especially not in shooters or racing games which requires very high precision.

I've heard people on GF4MX's describe a 10-15fsb 640x480 slideshow in doom3 as playable..
