a 6000 x2 might not be as fast as core 2s at vid encoding, and benchmarks, but there still pretty powerful. As cpu dependent as games AREN'T i wouldn't think it would hold either back.

ok thanks. i would like other ppls opinouns as well.
also what do yous think i should get the 4850 for $250 AU or a 4870 for $350 is it worth the extra $100

No. I don't think it'd hold back even a 4870. And even if it did (highly unlikely), well, it wouldn't be significant, and at least then you'd be getting the most out of your CPU. Go ahead, upgrade.

What is your goal? Is it to game at the highest resolution with max AA? Or Do you just want to play some games, occasionally? And can your budget handle it ?

You see, the 4850 is one of the best card when it comes to price-performance tag. If you want to spare some money, get definitely the 4850. De 4870 is about 20% faster and it has GDDR5.

It's all about the money...

i want this for games everything on highest an my res at 1440x900 (thats my monitor max) an even be able to if i put vista an DX10 on my comp.
my budget is just guessing it is my birthday in a couple of weeks so about $350

If you can afford it, why not? If you don't need to spare your money for something else, and you really want to play it on max, I would suggest the 4870.
