hi. i am thinking of getting a 2nd gtx 470. im wondering if my cpu in sig (athlon II x 4 630 @ 3.5Ghz) will hold me back any? thanks.

never mind. went out to get another 470, and its great. i ran vantage at 1080p resolution and before with 1 470 for rendering and a 260 for physx, i got 10207 for the gpu score, and 36327 for the cpu score. with the 2 470's in sli i got 17041 for the gpu score, and 43014 for the cpu score, (looks like 1 470 holds back the cpu?) one thing i noticed was that my 1st card runs about 10-15c hotter than the 2nd one. my motherboard has the slots spaces out so there is a gap inbetween the cards for good air flow. is this normal for a sli config for 1 card to run warmer than the other? over all im VERY happy

Well I don't know your motherboard specifics but I sure know Fourier's heat equation(du/dt-αΔu=0 (where the d is partial d) in case someone was wondering)... Even if there is a gap some of the heat will be trapped in between them. Not to mention that they could just run a little different anyway. I wouldn't worry about it. If one starts changing alot, reconsider. :) 10-15c is quite a bit as it is but it's still to hard to say with out seeing it and doing some math!!! Do you have any case fans near the gpus that are exhausting that you could use to blow cool air over them? My 2 295's run with in 2-3*c of each other and are right on top of one another. Now I wouldn't be worried because they aren't horrible but keep an eye on it.

It's normal for the top card in SLI to run hotter. Most GPU's can go up to 100c before you need to worry.

A 630 at 3.5ghz should be plenty considering it is a quadcore.

alright thanks for the replies. i switched the 2 cards a round and now temps are 1 -2c from each other. i tries crysis and finaly!! i can play it at 1080p all maxed out completly and turn all the setings up in the control panel and maintain 50 fps. temps max out at 90c for the gpu's and 40c for the cpu. i do have a 120mm fan blowing in from the side right where the fans on the cards are so the get fresh air directly to their fans and the exhaust out the back. power supply seems to be handling everything with no sweat. one thing i notices though was that when i open cpuz it says that my chipset on my motherboard is a nforce 780a sli spp, but i thought this was supposed to be a 980 chipset. whats up with that? any one have any ideas

Do you have the latest version of CPUZ. Doesn't really matter. The 980a is just a renamed 780a. No difference really.
