Will My Motherboard support a C2Q?

I have an ECS pt890t-a motherboard... The information says it supports Pentium D, Core 2 Duo and Celeron D...but I was wondering since it is socket 775 and it was made before C2Q came out -which is also socket 775 - will it also support a c2q?....

--I am trying to upgrade my computer without overhauling a complete new system...will I notice a difference If I get a c2d around the same speed, or what if my motherboard supports a c2q and I get a quad core with say 2.4ghz...? (I currently have a Pentium D 915 @ 2.78 ghz...)

If they are both LGA 775 socket then you should be fine, can someone else confirm?

hmmm...

just kinda worried...I wonder what everyone else has to say?....

have you tried it yourself or seen it? ....I would feel allot more comfortable if someone has had experience with it and gave me their advice on it...not saying I don't value your responses...I just read one thing here and another thing there...

I don't know if this is your exact motherboard model but according to NewEgg.com the ECS PT890T-A motherboard model supports only Core 2 Duo / Pentium D / Celeron D processors.

thanks, but that is actually what I was referring to...(the basis of this topic...)...

It is an older motherboard and I am thinking maybe it can support c2q's but since they were not out at the same time as this motherboard it just simply does not list it-

anyone have any advice?

then yea a q6600 is where u are headed. I can confirm that it will work.

may I ask how you can confirm this, please?...

According to this other website I found the PT890T-A motherboard only supports Core 2 Duo / Pentium D / Celeron D processors.

http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pr...goryID=1&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=44&LanID=0

If you are looking to upgrade I would go with a Phenom II processor. They are equal to the processing power of Core 2 Quad processors and are less expensive.

Take a look at the following components:

AMD Phenom II 810 Quad-Core (2.6 gigahertz) processor - $170

GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT-UD4P AM3 Motherboard - $140
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128378&Tpk=GA-MA790XT-UD4P

SUPER TALENT (2 x 1 gigabyte) 240-Pin DDR3 1333 PC3 10666 RAM - $47

some of you are COMPLETELY missing my whole original post....I know the specs do not list the Core 2 Quad as supported....BUT I WAS THINKING IS IT JUST NOT LISTED BECAUSE THAT MOTHERBOARD IS A LITTLE OLDER THAN THE CORE 2 QUADS?.....since THEY ARE BOTH SOCKET 775 - I know it will fit...just will it WORK?...not ACCORDING to the original specs -but according to your personal experience/ knowledge etc....

as for getting a PHENOM - why would I do that?...I would have to get a whole new motherboard and then in that case I might as WELL get something better ......
**I am trying to add a new CPU to my current computer so I will have to upgrade the least amount of parts...i.e. just the cpu and maybe the psu...

so now, sorry if I sounded rude at all -just kinda frustrating when I get teh same responses more than once WHICH are off from my O.P.....

now please can someone help me out?....

As I stated in previous posts your motherboard will not support a Core 2 Quad processor. The best you can get with your current motherboard is a Core 2 Duo processor.

I don't think you would see a major increase in processing power upgrading your processor to a Core 2 Duo. In my opinion save your money and get a new motherboard and processor upgrade rather than going halfway. The Core 2 Duo E8400 is a rediculous $165. The Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 is the same price at NewEgg.com.

but you are basing that off of the specs of the motherboard right?....I am thinking that those specs are out dated...

otherwise - can you please advise me as to why a c2q would not work on my motherboard -other than the fact that it simply does not mention "core 2 quad" on the specs?....

thanks!

Yeah I was just looking at Newegg and a few other sites. They all state the Core 2 Duo / Pentium D / Celeron D processors. There is no mention of Quad Core. So for the OP, I would either upgrade the board if you seriously want Quad Core, or settle with what the board supports.

lol
HERE we go again!

*I can read those sites that you read, I KNOW they do not list the Quad Core....just because it doesnt LIST it doesn't necessarily mean it will not work...like I SAID ABOUT 3 TIMES :
"the motherboard is older than Quad Cores: therefore it would NOT BE ABLE TO have "Quad Core" listed there BECAUSE they were not AROUND"

so since I have a 775 mobo, and the quad core is a 775 cpu -will they work together? or will it not work and why not?....I know they will fit together - just will they actually WORK together? I personally do not see/know why they would NOT work -but I was looking for someone with some actual EXPERIENCE with this not just someone repeating the above stated....

SO BASICALLY - SINCE THEY ARE BOTH SOCKET 775 WONT THEY WORK? Or is there a requirement for quad core on my motherboard? (I.e. certain nb /sb ....etc ?.)..............

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP! I AM GETTING THE SAME RESPONSES over and over with no confirmation other than "oh well, they dont MENTION quad cores so it cant work!"-because I do not believe that is right....at least its not the right answer for me...

Thanks all for your help / attempts to help...just hope someone can really help me out now:
