Will Non-ECC work on an ECC board?

I have just got my hands on a Dell PowerEdge 600SC (with no RAM) which takes ECC RAM. Do you know if Non-ECC RAM would still work on the board, all be it without the parity check nonsence.
Thanks...

should work but there is no reason you shouldnt get ecc ram. its only a little bit more.
well depending on what he uses it for, the error correction code will prob be useless.

There is a chance you can use non-ecc ram, it a bit of a hit and miss, your bios will prob support it. Are you intending on mixing???

No I dont want to mix non-ECC with ECC the only reason I want to use non is that i have a spare 512 stick. I dont really need the added features of ECC, all i intend using it for it for my university studies. Setting up a web server and PHP, MySQL applications. Thanks for all your swift responces by the way.

unless its a heavy server then you dont need ecc, so go ahead and try you 512 stick the worst that will happen is that it wont work if the bios doesn;t like it

well i have dell and i was interested in buying memory for my computer and in the dell manual it says specifically do not install ECC memory.

For the most part, machines that are designed for ECC memory (or nonECC memory) dont like it when you feed them the other type of memory
