Will Someone Please Help Me If They Can!!!!!!

First off i would like to say, Hello

My name is ronald patton i just became a member here yesterday (june 18 2007).
my question regards to my computer. At my High-School there was this program called Dell Tecknow. Students were selected by there teachers to participate in this course and at the end of the school year the students who successfully completed the course recieved computers.

i recieved a Dell Gx150 Optiplex.

this brings me to my question or more or less serious questions :).
i want to know how to upgrade the computer. during the dell tecknow course we skimmed over the area of upgrading because the majority of the kids in the class were poor so there was really no need for them to upgrade you know. well i want to know how to upgrade my things i want to have a better proccesor, graphics card, better hard drive, more memory, and whatever else there is. i know the difference between AMD and Intel our the amount of gaming and stuff i probally would use Intel only because i do game alot but i also multitask alot whether it be on AIM and the internet or playing Microsoft Flight Simulator X. i want the graphics to be so good that i can put the realism settings on Flight SImulator X to the highest it can go without making the computer slower. if anyone plays flight simulator they know what im talking about. also the computer came with Windows Xp Proffesional so of course i want to upgrade to at least Vista Home Premium. so keep that in mind.

Aye, even some modern computers stuggle with the FSX engine so unfortunately I doubt that one will be able to run it except at the lowest settings.

Yeah, it sounds like the only thing there worth keeping is the case... haha... and i guess the HDD.
You should totally just build a new one. It's hard to go wrong with that choice, because you pretty much always get exactly what you want.

Yup, just build another one. If your "not hurt in money" and can spend $1000then you'll be able to get a pretty good computer! C2D or something.

+1 for build as well. these days decent rigs can be put together sub $1000 like oscaryu1 pointed out sooo yeah....build lol

ok i got it so build a new one so can i keep the case. its really small and im wondering will that make it harder for me to find specific parts.

this is what it looks like..http://glen.utdallas.edu/Glen/Home/network/Dell GX150.jpg.

i pretty much knew i should start from scratch but i was just wondering is the case so small to the point that i wont be able to have a Cd/Dvd+RW burner on the computer. like will it inhibit me from a humungus hard drive and what not. speaking of that i wonder if the case is to small should i keep it and put as much in as possible and then go externally like a 320GB external hard Drive.
what do you think. tell me the possibilities i can have with this computer (PC)

yeah, unfortunately that computer is really just made to be a workstation, its not really for gaming or anything. you can build a computer that could come close to maxing out the vid settings on fsx for under $1500 if you wanted

ok thats fine with me. im looking on newegg.com and they have nice cases so im wondering just start from the ground up and give my sister this pc. rite

If she doesnt do the same gaming as you just web browsing and email then yes =) Choose your case and we'll help you from there. Would you Prefer a Core 2 Duo or Quad Core?

thats what i thought i saw the new intel quad core for like 516.97 but i think ill wait until the price cut. do you know why ther is price cuts on intel stuff??? and this is another question what does it mean when it says CPU(overlocked) what does that mean.
i no things about computers but im looking for people to tell me all about them

In my custom PC magazine they did a special on FSX and not even the highest end PC could max it out whihc included 4 GB ram, E6600 and 8800 GTX

ok i kind of figured it would be hard for a computer to max out FSX but is it at all possible to make it to the point were it looks like the box. also i am not looking to make a computer just for Flight Simulator X that was just a game i own and was wondering about. i want to have a fast computer and everything.. you know
:D

Yeah you could say the quad core is better for the future BUT, by the time all four cores are utilized there will be better processors and that one will be a dinosaur. Build another, get a new case, keep the Optiplex for msg'ing.

ok thats what i did i made a new thread that says LOOKING FOR HELP ON FIRST BUILD or something like that. it has a detailed list of what i have. and i want to know if it will all work. just read what i wrote and youll know what im talking about. i would love it if u guys could help make it less expensive
