Will these two play nice?

I want to stick with XP until windows 7 is shown to be as good as I hear, so until then, I'm stuck with 2GB of RAM, but I want to make sure that one stick from a dual channel kit will still work with a triple channel mobo...will it?

Once things work out for windows 7, then i can add the second stick.

you can use the memory any way you like... it's not like you have to run it in dual channel for it to work. Why don't you get a tripple channel kit?

Second that notion. Plus, there's no reason you can't use all 4GB in a 32bit OS. The computer will work fine but the OS will only see around 3.25GB.

it will work its just that you will only be able to put the memory in certain slots, your manual for the mother board should tell how to do this, but if you are going to get a triple channel board you should also get tripple channel ram for the best results.

you can also run benchmarking software on the laptop to check for compatibility issues. what ever you use should work fine. but for best performance, try getting hardware that have been pre tested my manufactures before purchasing.
