Will these work for my application_new build

Just looking for some input/opinions from the experts on here. I had a friend build my first computer some time ago (6 years ago) and I've decided its time to build a new one by myself. My primary purpose is for video capturing (i.e. from my digital camcorder and old vhs tapes), so some video editing will be done. Plus I want a system that I can get into cheap but will have room for upgrades in a few years. I will be building completely from scratch. Also, I've never done any video capturing/editing so it will all be a new experience for me. I'm trying to stay under $950 total for everything including printer and monitor etc.

Here's what I've looked at so far.

Intel 975XBX2KR Intel Socket 775 ATX Motherboard
Intel Pentium D 940 3.20GHz OEM Processor.
Centon 1024MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz Memory
Seagate / 320GB / 7200 / 16MB / SATA-300 / OEM / Hard Drive
XFX GeForce 7600 GS / 256MB GDDR2 / SLI / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV
Sony DRU-120C Multi-Drive 16x DVD±R Burn & Read / 8x DVD+RW / 6x DVD
Ultra eTorque Black Mid-Tower ATX Case with Front USB, FireWire/clear side
Power Supply ?????
Fan ?????

Ok.. I'm a newbie.. so be gentle

I like the expandability of the Intel board so when the core 2 duo's come down in price I can upgrade in 2-3 years if needed. I like the capable memory, however I don't understand the difference between the ability to hold 4 GB 32-bit or 8 GB 64-bit???? What would have to be done to handle this?? (i.e. upgraded CPU or OS etc).
I don't know if the RAM is enough for video capturing since I've never done it before so any help here would be great.
The price is good on the hard drive but I know its a little overkill so I might bring the size down some.
I'm only assuming the videocard is good.. any suggestions/comments?
I like the case because of the firewire in the front so hooking up my cam will be easier.
Haven't gotten to the power supply or fan yet... How big do I need to go here for wattage and what fans can you recommned for CPU and CASE.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Get the intel version of my sig and downgrade the videocard to a 7600 GT, you won't be playing many games will you?

keyboard mouse and monitor you can find at garage sales or just like scrapyards for next to nothing if not free and it would be better to focus your money on the computer first and the monitor keyboard and mouse later.

First of all, I'd suggest going for a Core 2 Duo right away as it will be much more performant than the Pentium D, the E6300 is only at 181$ on Newegg and should be even lower as of April 22nd.

Then for the RAM, it is unlikely that you will need more than 4gb; already, 2gb should be able to handle most of everything you'd do.

The 7600GS isn't such a great card, go for the 7600GT, its not much pricier, but its better. Then again, I don't know much about video cards, but if its not to play games, you might also want to have a look at the ATI X1600XT as it is similarly priced as the 7600GT, but ATI is supposed to be more performant in non-game situations (someone correct me if I am wrong).

Not too sure what that case is, but I'd suggest something else...

Actually, here is a start for suggestions:

Without a printer, keyboard or mouse you are at 1024.92$ with Vista. There are scheduled price drops on the Core 2 Duo processors, so price should drop by about 20$ for that or you could also get a E4300 if price is really important. Such an HD isn't too big and its only 10$ more than a 250gb.

Not much of a big gamer right now.. mostly just some C&C generals type stuff.

I currently like the deal I'm getting on the MOBO/CPU combo from tigerdirect ($299.00 bundle) so I'm saving about $85 bucks on the CPU by not getting the core 2 duo right now. I've priced everything thru tiger because I had really good luck with them in the past.. total current system cost is $1045 (include everything etc) after rebates. I'm still open to ideas though, so keep throwing them at me and I'll look into each one.

In order to use more than 4GB of RAM you'd need both a 64bit CPU (which includes any Pentium D, Core 2 Duo, AMD X2 or AMD Athlon 64), as well as a 64bit OS. It's unlikely that you would gain anything by doing so with the rest of that system, however.

You've listed an OEM processor, which means you'll also need to purchase a HSF separately. If I were you I'd spend a little less on the board and a little more on the CPU.
