Will this card work with my computer?

Hello, I was interested in finding out if this
Gigabyte 7900GS GDDR3 PCIe x16
Link 1
Link 2
card would work with my computer. I have a PCIe slot, however I'm not sure of the power requirements of the card, nor am I aware of what wattage my computer's (factory) PSU gets... I also do not know if there are any other technical issues that may arise/conflict when I install the card (I noticed my motherboard is primarily ati).

It's a Compaq SR1717CL
Motherboard specs

and, aside from the compatibility, does anyone know if this is even a good card? I see nothing but good in the reviews, but I just want to know if anyone has any first-hand experience with it.

Expansion slots
* Three PCI
* One PCI Express (No AGP slot)

Yes, it'll work just fine. And yes, it's a good card. Nothing awsome, but it should play most anything out now.

Alright... so it is a quality card, I should be able to play most games at high settings? Also, I'm pretty sure my computer's PSU is fairly weak, I'm just afraid it won't be able to power the card.

Yeah, that probably will be an issue... I had a similar compaq and I'm quite sure it didn't have the PCI-Express connection required with the 7900's...

I have a 7600GT which is just below the 7900GS, and I can play most anything just fine.

Cool... actually, after viewing the other thread... I'm interested in the ATi X850XT now haha, do you know if it has any crazy power requirements?

I'm quite sure it's a good bit higher than the 7600GT, and probably the 7900 as well. I know it has one huge fan! Be sure it will actually fit in your case.

:O Ouch... will do. If the video card needs more power, I'll have to get a new PSU, which will in turn require me to get a motherboard that can handle that much power! And to be honest... I don't think slightly better graphics in a game is worth that kind of money haha

That's what I thought, but apparently, I asked the Compaq guy (not sure if he was serious or just trying to make a sale...) and he said that if I upgrade the PSU the motherboard could burn out :P

and actually, I doubt it's less than 300W, and I guess I shouldnt be too worried, because I just spotted this in some other forum:

Your computer only uses the wattage that it needs. If you put a 1000w PSU in your computer now, it'd run using basically the same amount your previous PSU used.

Even if the GPU's only require 300w, those power supplies probably only push about 16 amps. That's quite low for a higher end GPU.

Alright... so I should be safe to be a 400-500w PSU (however, I'm somewhat new to computers, is it extremely difficult to rewire everything?)
