Will this system work?

I just decided to build my first system and I spec'd it out at http://www.newegg.com . I obviously know the speakers, monitor, etc. are separate. I was careful to pick the right components to work together, but just to be sure I wanted to check with someone who has built a system before. Here are the parts:

·Rosewill ATX Case with 400W Power Supply and Side Window (Black), Model "TU-155" -RETAIL
·Lite-On 52X32X52 Internal EIDE CD-RW Drive Black, Model SOHR-5238S Black, OEM
·Pioneer Black DVD+RW/-RW Drive, Model DVR-108, OEM
·SAMSUNG 160GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive, Model SP1604N, OEM Drive Only
·Aopen KB-966B/KB-966SB Keyboard PS/2 104keys -RETAIL
·Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 - OEM
·SOLTEK "SL-K8AN2E-GR" NVIDIA nForce3 250Gb Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 754 CPU -RETAIL
·Rosewill Black Optical Wheel Mouse, Model "RM800P" -OEM

My goal was $600 and it came to about $660, so please no more expensive recommendations, unless the increase is neglegable. Will this system actually run? More importantly, does it make sense? Do I have any bottlenecks that would hold me back? Is there anything else I need like cables or other accessories? I've read about cpu fans and cache modules, but I don't know if these are necessary.

Tons of questions I know, but just one more. I don't have a video card on here because I want to get a good one later on. But, does this motherboard have onboard video or is a seperate video card necessary to run? Thanks for the help.

what core is that cpu?

If it's a Newcastle then it looks OK. but if it's a winchester then it's not compatible with the mobo you picked out..

Did U not need a video card?

As long as thats a Socket754 cpu then youll be fine

But, does this motherboard have onboard video or is a seperate video card necessary to run? Thanks for the help.

Prolly dont need anything unless all your parts are OEM. Youll need, IDE cables for your optical and hdd drives :)
 
Yeah, it's Newcastle - socket754. The parts that are OEM are the hard drive, the cd/dvd drives, and the RAM. As far as the video card, I wanted to get a card that was suitable for most games (I'd like to play Doom 3). I know that a good vid. card is pretty expensive so I wanted to save up a little before I got one. But, if I need one from the start, I'll suck it up and get one.

and ya you will need a video card for that motherboard

ummm you don't exactly need a CD-RW drive and a DVD-RW drive. That is a good system but if it was me then i would go for the 939 chip as the 754 is soon going to fase out. Its more worth your buck that way.

Why not? Suppose you're trying to do a image of hmmm Prince of Persia Sands of Time (SD3.15) or Doom3 (SD3.20) ... all DVDRWs but the Plex708/712 wont be able to do that worth shit yet a $20-$30 CDRW can chew it out.

well from what i have heard the 939 is to take over. they no longer want the 754 chips, i bet ya they come down in price alot for the new year.

Who is this "they"? :confused: AMD is making some very nice sales on the 754s so that would be quite stupid to kill it, especially when they intended to carry the line through to 2005Q4
