it will work. however, 2 changes. you should get a 990 chipset board as it is the newest chipset, and you dont need such a powerful PSU. 650 watts is more than enough for your setup.
 
That board will be good, dont know if you wanted to wait until bulldozer is released and then a get a new cpu rather than get the phenom x6
 
The i3 beats that CPU, so you are wasting your time. Get a sandybridge based 2500K with a P8P67 motherboard, and be done with it.
 
doesn't the z60 support some other things, namely overclocking for later on if he ever wants to, which most people think about and do a little
 
The P67 can also be overclocked or how else do you think my 2600K would be at 4.5GHz? The only real benefits of a Z68 chipset is the ssd cache and quick sync but that is not relevent here, so a P67 is fine.
