Win 10 crash. Artifacts on screen.

So my computer crashed right in the middle of Euro Truck Sim 2 and the screen had long lines and looked like a bunch of static with a tan colored theme (1" wide by a pixel tall or so).

I refreshed windows to see that the lines are still there (not in BIOS, only in windows). I'm about to reload the AMD drivers but my guess is it's a Windows error... thoughts?

UPDATE: IT JUST CRASHED WHILE TRYING TO NAVIGATE THE AMD SITE. Using my laptop now...

UPDATE 2: Let it sit for about 2 minutes with no power cord attached. Windows automatic repair started... Could it be my HDD(s) since the age of them is unknown?

Issue was thought to be the 7, and 4 year old HDD's. Replaced with a 1yo HDD and reinstalled windows10. Issue is still there. Installing the AMD Catalyst software before messing with resolution.

UPDATE 3: Just crashed at the end of installation of Catalyst. I think this is system related.

Remember that Windows 10 is still in beta. How does your system behave with a stable OS like Windows 7 or 8.1?

If it tests out fine, then it's a Windows 10 issue. If you still have issues, it may be your RAM. Run Memtest86+ on it. If that passes, then test your HDD with SeaTools (found on Hiren's Boot CD).

Okay. I'll be gone for the majority of today, but that gives me some reassurance as to what I need to test. I've thrown out the GPU because BIOS runs fine. When I went to start/finish a program is started having issues which could be the RAM as you stated.

Is there a way to test my motherboard if I come back with no issues on the memory?

Was running 40% fans at less then 50°C according to SpeedFan...


I do remember trying to render a 10 second clip and it being all choppy... Could it be the CPU?

I have yet to test the RAM, so let's not jump ahead. It could very well be the memory.

UPDATE: 2 passes on the RAM so far and no errors.

It was my second module of RAM. After getting tired of running MemTest86 with no errors for 2 hours, I pulled the second 4GB stick out of the 4th slot and it worked. No artifacts on screen.

Gonna contact Newegg now and get a replacement.
 
I had the same issue I suffered for years. Memtest always passed, but I still got GPU driver crashes. Tried new RAM and never had another issue.

+ Newegg has their Iron egg guarantee right now.. Just gotta pay shipping back :mad:..

Computer will be down for about 2 weeks because they don't process on the weekends/holidays..
 
The $8 you pay in shipping is much better than shelling out $80 for new RAM. In my case I ended up buying new RAM, RMAing the old stuff, and selling it when it got back from RMA.
 
True... Well, this has been quite the learning experience and I'm quite bummed. I mean I heard good and bad about G.Skill's RAM and this is a prime example of a product they didn't quite test properly before it left the factory..
 
My RAM was G.Skill too. However I still only buy G.Skill for my personal machines. One bad experience hasn't stopped me.

Won't stop me either.. It's one of the top brands out there and the performance is great for the money.. I'm actually not that peeved about the shipping for RMA because I remember I paid $30 less for the RAM to begin with..

The last time I used Corsair vengeance I had to rma the set because of errors that took months to show up. Was having issues that was related to memory but Memtest kept coming up clean. Finally after months and months of bluescreens I tried memtest again and it finally popped up bad memory.

I only used Corsair when I first started building systems. I only use Gskill ram now on clients new builds(been using the Ares series for clients) and personal builds. Great ram and some are actually decent looking sticks. Some of the ripjaw series, trident, sniper look really cool. My next build/upgrade will probably have the sniper series or ripjaw z series.

The problem with the corsair vengeance is clearance issues with the aftermarket heatsinks like the CM Hyper 212 series. I'm using the Gskill ripjaws now and it no clearance issues with my 212+.
