Win 2000 CD/DVD Rom Issue

Gateway Solo 5300 recognizes Rom drive with Win 95, Win 98, but not with Win2000. Had Win98 on laptop, had software issues, upgraded to Win2000. Now cannot see the drive. Floppy drive/Rom drive are swappable so cannot make a boot disk with rom drivers. Is there a way to connect both drives so I can boot up and then use rom drive to load Win98? Any other way to solve my problem?

Sure there is. Go online and find your drivers you need for the CD-ROM drive and download them and install them. try www.driverguide.com, usually has everything.

P.s. You shouldn't even need drivers in the first place, I would also venture to say the drive/install may be messed up.

It is an issue with this particular model of computer and win 2000 that is why Win 98 was on it in the first place. Unfortunately, I did not remember that until I loaded 2000. It doesn't even know there is a drive there.
