Win 7 doesn't start consistently

Well, I just installed Win 7 Pro 64-bit, and it apparently doesn't like my computer. It will not start sometime. It will get to the BootGUI screen, and then go right back to the beginning.

The prompt saying that it did not start properly came up and I ran the Start-up problem diagnostic. It says Windows does not know what's wrong. (What a surprise...)

That being said, I got so pissed I opened my computer and unplugged the SATA cable to both my harddrives. Turned it back on and now it's working.

Any other fixes? I did a number of tweaks in my registry according to this guide for my SSD:

Could that be the cause of it? And any good start-up diagnostic programs? Or should I just reinstall? Thanks.

I would check out the power supply... You wouldn't believe the weird things i've seen caused by and underpowered/failed PSU. Usually when i get a computer in and its performing in a strange manor I check that Power Supply.

Anyway I can do that manually or just try to find someone else's spare PSU and see if it works on mine?

Did a search and all I need is a multimeter. I'll do this.

Does it matter that the computer worked perfectly when I had XP home installed on it?

You can check the voltages with a variety of utilities, either one that came with your MB or Speedfan etc. You can graph the voltages over a period. If you suspect there is an issue, that's the time to use a multimeter. There are a host of other possibilities which I will leave to others.

You don't even need all of that, you can pick up a power supply tester that all you do is plug in and it tells you if you're within the correct voltages or not. plus its a good tool to have handy! Not saying a multimeter is bad or anything... just easier because all you do is plug it in. Now that you mention it worked perfectly with Xp... it sounds like it could be a problem with a driver in windows 7. You're booting that up from a SSD correct? Its to my understanding that windows 7 does have some boot issues with certain SSD's.
