Win 8 question

I need to retire my old computer that has been running XP a long time. I do a fair amount of audio, video, and photo editing.

I would like to know if my old software (Sound Forge, Vegas Video, PhotoShop 7) will run ok on Win 8. What about Win 7?

Also will my last generation all-in-one printer scanner copier work ok with these operating systems?

Thanks, John Go

They should work fine and any that do not work on normal install, just install using xp compatibility.

Personally i would go for windows 7 full retail as windows 8 has no full retail version, so what ever machine you put it on it is stuck there and must be sold with the machine.

It's good that you're upgrading from XP :)

Photoshop 7 will work with Windows 7 and 8. Which versions of Sound Forge and Vegas Video are you using?

If you get the Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro "System Builders" version, you can transfer the license to another board or machine as long as it is not on the previous computer. And it has to be a Clean install. Look under the "Personal Use License". http://www.microsoft.com/OEM/en/licensing/sblicensing/Pages/personal-use-license.aspx

Ah yes i read it terms must have changed for windows 8, does state quite clearly it can be moved to another machine.

Well in that case buy 7 or 8, win 7 is very good and probably the most poular windows os ever.

Windows 8 has had a mixed reception, why not download windows 8 trial and run it for a few days or even in a virtual machine.

To answer all of you, I will be buying an already built computer. I have always used either HP or Dell.

Do you think it will be hard or impossible to get a new computer these days with Win 7 from the factory?

I am using Vegas Video 5 and Sound Forge 6. Old I know but they will do everything that I need and more.

Thanks

I have looked at the sites for the 2 links you sent. I'm thinking about calling next week and talk it over with them.
Thanks

jamesd1981,

Puget Systems has built a desktop for me and it's enroute. Should be delivered next Wednesday. I was on the phone with the representative for over 30 minutes getting everything just as I wanted it.

Those folks know how to take care of a customer! Through every phase of the build, they posted the progress so I could keep up with the process. When it was built and all components tested, they emailed pictures of it to me.

I'm anxious to get it. I did go with Windows 7, btw.

Thanks for the tip, John Go
