Win XP, 2.8GHZ, 1gb ram. Any point in upgrading?

The Zotac model i posted earlier has onboard nForce graphics. I dont want to buy an additional graphics card for cost and space reasons.

nForce 610i - i assume this would be better than the inbuilt intel graphics, purely because i only see people criticise the intel more frequently

The CPU - I will hunt around. I picked the celeron as it was the cheapest, and people said it was overclockable quite easily

I believe the ATI/AMD igp's are better. HD4xxx series will do all you want, and then some. Or an HD 3xxx, but that's older tech. An AMD build would cost less and perform as well as Intel for your uses.
Do you have 7 already? Do you have an amount to spend on this tower?

The problem is, im struggling to find a mini ATX with an AMD socket. DABS's cheapest is £91. I've only shopped with DABS, ebuyer, and Novatech. Not sure which other sites are legit.

My original plan was to fit a mini ATX build into a Sega Saturn or Playstation console.

My budget is max £150. I have a SATA HD, and IDE DVD drive now.

Ok, but any factory installed Windows on one of those hdd's won't work. So I assume 150 is just for the tower components that you need. Do you have an optical that can be used? Anything else?

Oops, sorry, i should elaborate. This is what i have:

Windows 7 disc (shortly)

My current setup:
SATA HD (primary)
IDE HD (secondary)
2x IDE DVD drives. came with the comp. I only read dvds.
HP mobo with integrated graphics and sound
1GB memory (512, 256,256) PC2700

DVD RW drive at home.

The dvd rw reads/writes/rewrites? Is it sata?
As long as it reads the 7 disc, you could possibly use it till you can get another(depending on the rest of the parts cost).
I'd suggest making a post in the 'desktop' section, state the budget and that you have 7, the sata hdd, and the type of optical. Hopefully the type is sata. That way if the MB doesn't have ide, then np.

good suggestion

i will do some more searching, and see if the sites with amd mini atxs have reviews, and then post in the desktop section

thanks for the advice

Knowing what we can about what others may say or recommend is good:).
Reviews from sites are helpfull. Reviews from buyers aren't as reliable. Many members here have done all the research and know these parts extremely well. As soon as you post is seen, they will know(if budget allows) what to recommend before they can get it typed :good:. Oh yeah, be sure and put the intended use for your pc as well.
