Hi, my name is Kevin, and this is the first thing i've posted on the site. My problem is that about 5 minutes after Win XP Home Edition loads, it gives me the message "Please Wait" and it changes my appearance to high contrast black. I have to change it back to my regular theme (which is high contrast white, but it still changes in any other theme) and it doesn't do it again, only after startup. This can be very annoying and I was looking to see if anybody can help me thanks. P.S. Somehow my Windows XP appearance theme is not on the list anymore any suggestions for getting it back would be nice thanks:).

do you have windows customization tools loaded? like windowblinds, bootskin, style xp, etc..?

if not, it can be startup program issues. go to
start>run>msconfig>

select the startup program, and see if there are any startup programs that doesn't belong there.

i dont think it can be a virus or anything, but u can always check and do a scan.

I don't think I have any customization tools loaded, if I did how could i check that?
I looked at the start-up list and everything seemed about normal, except there was two im not not sure about, they may be microsoft tools but im not sure. Here they are "Atiptaaa.exe" and "atiptaxx.exe" Do you know what these are?

Atiptaaa.exe - part of ATI Task software. Atiptaaa.exe is related to your video card software.

ATIPtaxx.exe - is a traybar process for your ATI graphics card drivers. It gives you easy access to your graphic card settings.

Ok thanks, I found out that the computer has been doing this ever since I took it into a computer store to be repaired,(it had lots of viruses and spyware which I could not get rid of) and I have no idea what they did, but it has caused this to happen to my computer, does anybody have any other ideas?

Perhaps your video drivers got corrupted. Go to the official ATI site, to the "Drivers and Software" drop-down menu, choose Windows XP, and download the newest drivers for your card in their driver section.

Now use this:
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Driver-Cleaner-Professional-Download-20706.html

Download and install the program, select "ATI" from the cleaning list, and click clean. (Ignore warning prompts) After the process is finished, you should restart your computer (it may prompt).

After the restart, let Windows load its generic driver, ignore prompts of Windows telling you about the screen resolution. Now, install the new ATI drivers, restart (it may prompt). Get to your desktop, set the resolution and settings the way you want, and enjoy. That should fix it.

nothing..

I reinstalled the driver and it still came on. I also took everything off of starup using msconfig, and it still happens. Also I forgot to mention earlier that each time before it changes the computer beeps. What would this mean?
