Hard drive is WD 1T. Roommate just put together new build. He has old XP cd. Put the cd in and it says hard drive "not recognized". Any idea what he is doing wrong? Thanks.

He has a 10 year old computer with XP. If he copied that hard drive to the new one and booted his new build with that it would not work because all the hardware (motherboard etc) is different right? He is talking about ordering windows 8

Correct, it would not have worked. I wouldn't even install XP on it since support for it ends next April. If he wants Windows 8 then go for it. However I still prefer 7 (and OS X for that matter, lol).

I had a computer with XP and mine. XP Pro and wiped the HD and could not get updates.
JohnB mentioned to someone else. SP3. Bam ........... done. got them all.
