Win XP to Win 7 now running much cooler.

I noticed when I installed Win 7, that my CPU core temp had dropped by nine degrees. I ran a couple of tests with core temp and found this.

It would be good to hear from anyone running vista with win 7 , so I could compare results . Also would love to hear from Intel users as I only have an AMD to test this out.

I actually noticed my temperatures drop with windows 7 on my eee pc. This is going from Vista though, I never used XP on that thing.

looks like you got quite a few things in your task tray in XP, I bet there are quite a few things using your CPU, making it hotter in XP.

I´ve been trying this with different temp monitoring programs and getting the same thing. I have a CPU led display on the MB , which is what got my attention.
I probably would´nt have noticed otherwise.

That is what I was wondering as I only have XP and the free RC win 7.
The background apps. should´nt throw much difference as there´s no load.

Here´s another shot of Win 7 controlling the frequencies and core voltage.
This is after I enabled cool n quiet in the bios.

That is odd. Just so you know, that's not the official Release Candidate.

That build was leaked after the Beta, but before the Release Candidate.

It may have something to do with the power management 7 does. I know it clocks down the EEE's CPU when not in use..Haven't checked my other comps yet...

Edit:
After looking at your pic I see that under 7 it was clocking your CPU at 800mhz, rather than 3000mhz. This could cause the huge difference in temps.

After he enabled "Cool and Quiet" as he stated.

Still doesn't explain the anomaly in the first pic.

Open up Power Options in control panel on both OS's and set them to Performance. Then check temps. That will give you accurate readings. If there is still a difference then I have reason to believe that newer os's are controlling the fans or something alot better. I have this same thing. Xp is about 38C idle and Vista is about 31C idle.
