win xp update help

Every say 20 Min. I look down at my Clock and see the Little Icone that tells me Update are readdy to be installed so I click it and itstall it.

The update it is installing is

SECURITY UPDATE FOR MICROSOFT XML CORE SERVICES 6.0 SERVICE PACK 2.
KB954459

And I click install and it does it and a window comes up saying Instalation was sacsesfily compleated.
And I shut down like it says and restart and all is good.

Then say 20 Min go by I see the icone that says Updates are readdy to be installed.

So I click on it and it is the SAME updates.

I have bean doing this now for say a weak and it wont stop.
What is going on?????

I am useing wijn xp pro service pack 2

It just happened again anyone???

I trayed going to internet explorer and then Tools
And I did not see windows update in here.

This is a ver ver strange cycle please help
 
Go to your Control Panel, and click on Automatic Updates.

Set them to "Notify me, but don't automatically download or install them".

Then, the next time it comes up, choose "Custom" update.

Uncheck the box for that update, and then click "Don't remind me again about this update".
 
agreed......i take updates manually and pick an choose. Pretty much critical and security only. i want to see whats installing. some might not be in my best interest. Maybe just Microsoft's best interest.
