Win2000 Recovery Console

I was trying to run chkdsk with recovery console on win2000 since it's showing the blue screen with "innaccessible boot device". I was using a RC for xp burned to a cd since i first thought the computer is running on xp, but turns out it's 2000 (obviously it's not my pc, it's my friend's and since he's a total noob he didn't know the OS).

So my question is: is there a seperate recovery console for win2000? If yes, can someone post a link to download it? I managed to enter RC with the xp cd, but it didn't start chkdsk, just showed a blank screen. And a few times it just restarted after pressing R.

Thanks in advance!

Don't use checkdisk. Use the drive makers disk diagnostic program to test the drive for errors. What brand of drive is it?

But why shouldn't I use chkdsk? Had a similar problem with xp and fixed it using RC and chkdsk /p.
I think i found a way to use chkdsk. Writing a win2000 boot disk and booting from floppy. Then using the command line to start chkdsk. Have to find a floppy somewhere tomorrow though. Can it be done with a cd?

Use the DOS, and make you a boot disk of freeDOS on a flashkey or Floppy to boot from.

The utilities for windows are generally advised against.

Seatools does not require a dos boot disk. Just boot to the seatools for disk and it will start right up.
