win7 /86 help

I think I asked this before but I did some looking up and am more mixed up.

Win7 can install 32 Bit programs and it will only install them into the /86 folder I get this.

But 64 Bit program can be installed into the Normale path or /86 folder.

What I don't get is I tryed to install a 64 Bit program and it was going to install it into the /86 folde?

Why this is just for 32 Bit programs?

thanks but

Well I tryed to install iTunes 64 Bit and it was going to put it in the /x86 folder.

Now I know 64 Bit can go in there but why would it?

I believe it's just the new default location for all installs to avoid potential compatibility issues.

Being OCD, I remove the x86 part for neatness.

thanks but

So you install both 64 Bit and 32 Bit programs in the
C:\programs folder

And never install anything into the /x98 folder???

Programs will install wherever they are designed to be installed to. I wouldn't worry why some things go in one folder and others go in another as long as the program works.
