Win7 being a PITA

Hey all, I recently bought a PC that has Win7 Ultimate 64bit installed on it.

I"m having issues with it.

#1, the resolution issue as per my other thread
#2, GAMES

I cannot get CS 1.6 to play on it, even if I switch from OpenGL to D3D, it still crashes everytime.

Now, I installed COD4 MW1 and Siongle player works, but Multiplayer crashes before it even loads.

I've had nothing but problems with this Win7, and am starting to get discouraged by it. I would love to keep it, however I"m really starting to think about falling back to XP because at least it was stable and reliable.

Anyone else having similar problems with the OS? If so, how was it fixed?

Thanks.

you will be able to use the compatibilty mode to run like xp but you wont be able to run in win 7's xp mode as that is virtualisation and has no access to the gpu

have you ensured you have the latest drivers from the manufacturer and are not using old drivers or the windows graphics drivers? do you have 32 bit or 64 bit windows?

I have all the newest drivers for my monitor and my video card.

I've tried using windows display properties, making my own driver, everything I can to get the 1680X1050 VIA VGA, but to no avail.

I want to keep Win7, as I really like the way it looks and works, but if I can't get any of my games to run in Win7, I'll have no other choice but to dump it :(

i have never had any problems with windows 7 ive been running it since august and no problems with games and ive been playing both old games like homeworld (great game :)) and stuff like fear
what video card do you have btw?

I am using a HIS Radeon 3870HD with the latest Drivers and CCC installed.

I am also using the 64bit version of Win7 with 2GB of DDR2 RAM
