Please help...Sorry if this post is in the wrong location but I am stressing out....I managed to forget my password and I am locked out of my computer.....I just upgraded the OS to Win7.....I am using NT Password reset but on step two where it asks "What is the path to the registry directory?" it will not accept the default windows/system32/config location.....I would have not changed this location during install....

What/where would the location be?

I downloaded Win7 and did not have the chance to create the recovery/boot disk...

I need help as soon as possible...This computer has all my school work on it...some of which is due tomorrow morning..

Can you boot to safe mode and log on as administrator and delete your password? I know you can in XP, not sure about W7 though.

in safe mode there should be no password for ADMIN. Unless you set one up during installation of windows.

only other way is to boot off windows cd into command prompt and run this command

net user username new password. be sure to leave space between net user, username and password. One you do this reboot normal and type i new password

It is my understanding that a lot of 'under the hood' work went into Windows Vista and Windows 7. So, I bet lots of the default paths have changed for lots of things. I also think Microsoft is starting to mimic a more Unix-like filing structure.

If I recall, you will have to actually make a recovery disk for lost passwords, which you can do with in Windows.

I assume Windows 7 is the same or similar to this. I don't have a Windows machine handy at the moment so I can't test it.
