Asus desktop CM6870
3.4GHZ, i7-3770 Quad-Core
16 GB RAM
1 TB Seagate (2 500G partitions)
nVIDIA GeForce GT 620 2GB
Windows 7 Home Edition (Sp1)

System running SLOW and Clean boot Safe modes are slow.

Things tried:
Restored to previous good point
sfc /scannow (some files not fixed)
chkdsk /f
Microsoft security essentials full scan found a Trojan – fixed
Ran ComboFix
Ran Malwarebytes
Reset winsock
sfc /scannow (some files not fixed) again

Resource monitor shows disk activity response times in excess of 3000 ms while an application loads then falls to zero.

Appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

Thanks for the prompt reply johnb35.
SeaTools - quick test failed, long test failed, repaired.
Ran msconfig to set for normal boot, and the system is running great!
Still have some windows issues but hat's another thread.

Thank you,
Dennis

Did it say what the problem was? Bad sectors? If so, then it would be in your best interest to replace the drive now. Once bad sectors start appearing you'll continue to get them.

Replace hard drive. It's only a matter of time before it won't even load Windows. If it failed short test then you know it's bad.

Do replace that drive. I knew right away from you thread title it was drive related. You can clone it to a new drive with AOMEI Backuper, but the fact you have bad sectors might not be a good idea.

Cloning drives with that many bad sectors is just asking for trouble.

New drive, new install.
