Win98 install

I tried installing Windows 98 over Windows XP on my Pentium 3, I tried booting the Win98 CD to install but right after I select "boot from Windows 98 disk to start setup" it says:

The program is too big to fit in disk

>D:\WIN98

why?

Rather than starting the setup from the boot sequence, try starting your machine with CD-ROM support, then running setup that way... It might make no difference, but it's worth a shot. I've had problems when I tried to run the setup from the batch file, and it typically does a horrible job formatting your drive and such, anyway.

Dont think you can install 98 over XP, if XP is in NTFS use a 98 boot floppy to delete non dos paritions and make a FAT32 partition, format it, then boot to the 98 cd

With Windows 98 you need to make a boot disk, use the boot disc to delete the current partition as well as format a new partition in FAT32 format. Then boot again from the floppy, and tell it to run the setup file from the CD (ex. D:\Setup.exe). And tel it to run setup with CD-ROM support.

SE is Second Edition. Its an updated version of Windows 98. If you have a SE CD then get the SE boot disk.

you can boot from the win98 cd when it askes d:\win98

switch the 98 to the xp disk in and then in the D:\win98
put in D:\i386\winnt.exe

bingo, it should boot,

boot froom it,

change the setting in bios to boot from the floppy

when it askes
-boot from cd
-start with cd support
-start without support

a:\format (space) c:

It says:
C: format not supported

Yesterday I took the HDD out of the Pentium 3 and put it in mine as a slave drive, selected all the folders it had in it and deleted. Did I cause a problem there?

Do you think I should reformat it by installing it into my PC?

ok with linux youll have a whole new prob, as it does not use any windows filing system,

but having said that linux usually detects it as a non - linux partition, and you will be given the option of format

you could try the following,

get partition magic or another format program on cd.

borrow of friend if possible

that will detect the ntfs fs, then delete it and then reboot and thats it, a clean fresh hdd

Could I just take the HDD out of the Pentium 3 and put it into my Pentium 4, delete NTFS, format it with FAT32, install Win98 and finito?

How will I format it through my Pentium 4?
