sorry if this is the wrong place for this. I've heard people talk about winamp on this website like it was a good thing and I don't know if its still like this but back in the windows 95 days I remember downloading something and winamp snuck its way onto my computer while I was downloading and turned every sound file into some weird .something or other and even when you deleted winamp the files still stayed like that and you couldnt play any sounds unless you used winamp I'm guessing its different now right?

That had to do with how windows assosiated files. Like when you press assosiate this file type with this program. Now if you unistall it it should just revert back to WMP although i've never had a problem with winamp so have never unistalled it :)

I think it was the program why else would they sneak it in with the file I was downloading?

Same reason they still try to sneak in some junky get 40 free tracks program...probably a sponcer/affiliate company. Then again you can always download the lite version.
 
winamp is industry leading now man, and IMO far better than WMP, especially if you get the Pro version, 5.2 has just been released and can connect to portable devices (MP3's) aswell now, its brilliant.

God i love winamp
 
winamp now is just plain awesome because it easily categorizes everything so easily, and with so many plugins for support with just about every type of media. plus it has an awesome winamp radio and shoutcast radio and aol with xm exact syncing radio(video and audio) and it also has an awesome lyric plugin. its just so suited for that ULTIMATE JAMMER!:eek:
 
i dont know, i really like wmp 9.0, it never crashes, nothing, it is just perfect, but then again, that is my view, i dont like winamp
 
I like winamp too. and yes it has changed somewhat. it will still associate music/movie files to it, like it will have the winamp logo. but you can easily change it by choosing what program u want the file to open too.
you should try it, you might even just like it
 
nope, i like my windows media player, and for some reason if i am not using that, i am using mixmeister (which is actually a dj-ing program)

Or jsut tell winamp not to open those file types by default when installing it
 
thats not spyware or w/e you called it its a configuration in windows default programs??? not at all near a virus as u were explaining it to be but an acually helpful tool used forppl who have realized winamp owns
