i just got this problem tonight, after window 7 welcome screen, the screen turns black, the mouse moves fine but left/right clicks doesnt work. the ctrl+alt+delete screen does show up when i press them, i can shut down/restart/logoff and stuff but task manager wouldnt show up. I tried safe mode but its the same thing execpt the black screen now has "safe mode" written in the corners.

i suspect the explorer.exe couldnt run, but task manager does run so i cant manually run it. I also tried window restore, but somehow it failed to restore to and previous point.....

i figure i will have to format the computer, but is there anyway to back up my data? like running a external window from a disc so i can access my harddrive and backup my stuff?
like ubuntu's tryout disc, but not sure if it can access window file without updates

thanks all in advance

You should be able to access your valued data using a Linux Ubuntu 10.04 disk. You do not even have to do an installation of Ubuntu to get access to the files. There is an option to run the operating system off the disk and off RAM.
