Windows 3.1 files

I have a couple old computers with files I would like to recover. They're both Compaq, one console and one laptop, both with 3.1 and Wordperfect.

They don't start up. However, I was told that the contents of the hard drives could be recovered if the drives are functional.

Is it possible to get my old Windows 3.1 Wordperfect files into a format which can be read on a Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating system.

These are document files, not audio or video.

The easiest thing to do would be to get a usb hard drive adapter like this.

Connect your laptop and desktop hard drives to it one by one and transfer the files to your new system. However, the only way you will be able to open them is if you install a copy of wordperfect on your system.

OpenOffice should be able to open your WordPerfect files then save them to another format.
