hey guys, gals i'm gonna have an old-skool computer with windows 3.1 and its gonna have 41^dos games, programs and more and i have the setup disks but it won't run the os its under directory c:/windows is there anything i should change?

If you have all 6 setup disks in good shape simply boot with an old dos floppy and type in "deltree windows" at the C prompt. You can then install a fresh copy to get things going there. The actual size of 3.1 was like 35mb total when everything was unpacked, You would also need the floppies for the games/programs to then go on.

OR! You can take any newer OS even on a Vista OSed machine and use DOSBox to mount the old stuff on a virtual drive. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get screen shots of the original 8bit version of Duke Nukem to show you here using DOSBox.

ok i got the virtual drive mounted but when i close dosbox it un-mounts my drives i got to run 3.1 for 1 sec and it froze so what can i do?

The idea of Dosbox is for use on the newer versions of Windows since 3.1 was simply a desktop application running on dos then. You don't run the 3.1 installer or that version's setup through Dosbox if you tried that. That's simply a tool for running old dos games and apps on the newer OSs by way of a virtual drive there. What system are you trying to install 3.1 onto?
