I've been looking at this computer i'm fixing up and i've noticed that its only allocating 2.50 gb of a potential 4.0 gb i've ran a memory test and all seems find it is definantly detecting the ram in the bios and such but will not detect the full amount in windows 7 any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Oh and this machine also has a dual boot of xp and on xp it is still only recognising the 2.50 gbs. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

my 32 bit only detected about 3 gig. i think yours should have detected a little more though. Want to see all your gig? upgrade to 64 bit. that will fix it. On the other hand i always heard with 32 bit and 4 gig will be recognized. My suggestion: leave it alone. If your a player then do the upgrade.

Yeah i know it should be detecting the full 4 gb its not my pc i'm fixing it up for someone and it sure would be nice to send it back running 4 gb which would be mass speed.

Ok i've found what it is its like tremmor said windows 7 32 bit can only detect 3 gb and whats draining the ram is the nvidia geforce 9500 GT which is (512) integrated. Now knowing this i can not understand why people would buy windows vista/7 32 bit its just a waste of money. Especially if you are looking to upgrade in the future.

I have windows7 Pro. (its 32 and 64 bit). it is a retail though. don't know if its a diff or not.
