Windows 7 64bit Download

Hi All

With Retail copies of Windows Im aware that you are entitled to both 32bit and 64bit versions?

I have a mate who has 32bit installed but wants to get 64bit now that he has more ram.

My question is where can one obtain a win7 64bit iso or dvd? Legally? I looked on Microsoft but couldnt find anything?

Cheers

I do believe you would need a new key anyway. You can't activate the 2 versions with the same key. That would be like allowing your friend to install the 64 bit version while you are running the 32 bit version.

Retail does come with both a 32 bit disk and a 64 bit disk and only one key shared between them. I don't know if that's ultimate, or premium, or if it only works one time or what.

However, OEM, pre-installed, factory, volume license key, etc...all require a new key to be purchased. Sorry.

As for the original question of obtaining a legal ISO. You could Torre...er...I mean, borrow one from a friend. I don't think you can download them. *cough*.

Ah really? Thats stupid Mircosoft should offer a way... I guess Ill have to just try something else..

Another question. Just brought Win 7 64 bit OEM myself... Will my mate be able to install win 7 64bit using my dvd and then use his retail product code?

Cheers

You can't use a retail key on an OEM installation. I would call or email microsoft to see if you are allowed to use the same key when installing the 32
bit and then turning around and installing the 64 bit version afterwards.

If you bought it, you can install your copy, then your friend can use your 64-bit disc and use the key off his machine. He doesn't need a new key; it has to be the same copy of 7 though (Home Prem, Pro, Ult, etc.)

Yeah thats what I though, although just found out that he has retail professional... I just brough home premium lol.

Whats the difference between the different versions anyway?

Actually there is a database file that you can delete and it'll allow you to install any version of Windows 7 you want (within that bit version.) This guide helps with that (You still need a valid license key): http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-t...ll-from-single-edition-dvd-disc-media-or-iso/

And this chart compares the versions.
