You can now preorder Windows 7 at newegg for 100 bucks. Do you think that this is the final price for 64bit home oem or will the price go up. If it goes up then I'm gonna buy it now even though the 7 ultimate im using now is good until next year. Does anyone know ?

Will do sir. Also with oem i can have it installed on only 1 pc right ? Because I have 2 pcs at home right now and if I wanted to have windows 7 on both of them I'd have to buy 2 of those oems correct?

Correct.

OEM installs get registered to your hardware configuration.

Meaning, if you try to install that OEM copy on another machine
down the road, you won't be able to activate it, unless the hardware
is identical.

That's not true. MS will activate a system builders OS on different hardware configurations. You have to call them. But yes, you can only have the OS installed on one machine at a time.

I pre-ordered my copy of 7 pro and got it for $99 when the pre-order was first an option :)

It's confusing, partly due to the item description at newegg:

This OEM System Builder Channel software requires the assembler to provide end user support for the Windows software and cannot be transferred to another computer once it is installed

This is Microsoft's official policy, but they will reactivate the license after significant hardware changes. When you go to activate after a reinstall, you have to use the "Call Microsoft" option, go through the steps, and MS will provide a positive activation ID.

I got the Pro upgrade for $49 from Amazon. It's suppose to arrive on the 23rd.

I don't see an Ultimate upgrade, and I am not paying $170 for OEM. Yes, I do need the Ultimate as I like to try and do some development on the side so I need all the features so I can develop for them.

I hate how they feature limit.

Don't expect price drops anytime soon. If I remember correctly, they didn't drop the price on Vista for a year. Greedy, cash grabbing bastards.

haha. The OEM price is a good deal if you never bought vista. I got the upgrade cuz I already own the retail version of vista, otherwise I would have went the system builders route.

I got the upgrade cause I Should be able to use my Copy of XP to upgrade.

Does anyone know if they have a student discount?
Or can you "upgrade" from the windows 7 beta with an upgrade version?

Frugality is a beautiful thing.
