LoL...even if you DO have the source code of the software, there is no point in you checking it out to see if there are some security holes if you are not a programmer.Because you won't understand absolutely anything lol.

On the other hand if you ARE a programmer then you will know how to decompile the software and take a look at the whole code yourself.
But like I said...if you are not a programmer then you won't understand absolutely anything lol.

I remember once when I made a small free tool (couple of years ago) and few people said it is a virus.Of course it was not a virus, but someone made that up and EVERYONE ELSE IMMEDIATELY started to believe that it is.Some even said that they looked at the source code and found out it WAS a virus.Yea right...if they really did that then they would know it was NOT any type of vulnerable program (virus).
But of course they lied...NONE of them took a look at the source code. You need to KNOW how to even open the code of the software and also you must KNOW a lot more to even understand what the code does and KNOW EVEN A LOT MORE to understand wether the code is vulnerable or not.
NONE of them knew that. They were just jelous and made up that it was a virus rofl!!!
Unfortunately people tend to believe that something is a virus as soon as "someone" says it's a virus.

LoL...

A great example would be a small PIN generator I recenty made for one of the users on this forum.Someone could easily come and write:"Don't download that! It's a virus!!!".
But who ever would say that WOULD KNOW that he/she just made that up and does not have a single proof that what they said is true lol.
Unfortunately as I said above...people tend to believe that something is a virus as soon as "someone" says it's a virus.

Cheers!

Yeah exactly stars, I think it is a disgrace of anyone to give a program a bad reputation with absolutely no evidence.

As far as i can see the program was written by a student, it is a very small simple program and just because it is not made by a big name company, some how that makes it dodgy virus ridden crapware.

Some people on here need to get over there hang up with brand names.

Nah I stopped paying attention when people say that the program wether I made it or someone else made it is a virus lol.I just ignore them.
I know it is hard to ignore all those people, but by time it gets easier lol.
I guess that is what me and the rest of us have to live with wether we are programmers or not. :P

I don't know.I don't want to say anything against Okedokey. He seems fine to me lol.
I will admit that there ARE few people on this forum who really go on my nerves, but I never said who they are. :D
None of them posted in this thread yet so you can all calm down hehehe! :D
And if they do post here,I am not gonna say anything lol. :D
I guess I got used to ignoring them lol.

I didn't say malware. I said crapware. Its crapware, because you are letting an application modify your registry, with no real knowledge of what it does, and for absolutely no reason whatsoever - as it is quicker and far easier to simply rename a folder.

What you're not recognising is that running that application inherently increases the chance of issues, whereas a rename of a folder does not.

You've hijacked this thread enough James, so how about you stop. I started this tread to shine a light on a poorly known function not to have a discussion about your desires to use a pointless tool.

I said nothing regarding the the reputation, just that its pointless, and the author, has no reputation, a deleted account and a non-existent website.

The burnden of proof that this tool has any real use, is written by a competent coder, or doesn't cause issues is on you, not me. And so far you cannot assure anyone that, that application is safe, and fine. You cannot. So until you do, please refrain from highjacking yet another thread with your stuff.

In summary:

The tool you linked to is completely and utterly unecessary. Its equivalent to downloading and using a tool to open the start button.

The tool you linked to has absolutely no assurance around its function. The simple fact that it modifies the registry means that it COULD be damaging to your computer. The renaming of a folder is not the same.

Put simply, i wanted to make this dicussion around the uses of the God MOde, but yet again, you come in with pointless stuff that has really no use and can only be deterimental.

Sheesh

I was going to avoid posting in this thread but here is my $.02:

I would rather quickly rename a folder than download some app from the web.

But I am "old fashion" in that I go to where function is actually located so I stay refreshed to where things are.

Finally, IMHO Okedokey is right that HIS thread was hijacked in what appears to be a lame attempt to take away from the tip that he offered.
Now if James had said something like: That's a neat trick, did you know about this app..... - I would have thought differently about it.

Ok, This is done, here and now.

2 members posted 2 different ways to accomplish something and then each discussed their points. Isn't this forum all about discussion? There was no need for the atmosphere to get as bad as it did. I'm really wondering if we are adults or kids trying to prove their point. I may do things one way while another may do it totally different. Does that make one person better then the other? NO, it does not. Just goes to show you why moderation is required in certain threads.

Discussion is good and welcomed in our forum but this type is definitely not.
