windows 7 hangs during fresh install

im having a big problem installing win 7 64 bit on a pc , the installation gets as far as expanding files and hangs there at 0% , now having read lots of forums it seems lots of people are having the same problem , ive tried everything ive seen to get past here to no avail

the only other way i can think of would be to put the hd in another pc do a fresh install of win 7 on that one and change the hd back to the original pc

has anyone ever tried this and will it work?
 
How long have you let it sit? It does take about 5 minutes to move past 0%.

If it's been longer, try testing both your HDD and RAM for problems.

heres a point maybe worth a mention the ram is fine and has worked flawlessly for ages , what im trying to do is add a ide 120gig drive to the pc and install windows 7 in there

theres also a 1 t hd that id like to use for storage thats a sata , the dvd drive is also a sata


its been left for hours at 0% , i came across this post which seems to be the problem im having and have tried the lot lol

Still, have you tested the two components?
 
sorry for my ignorance i will do a mem test now
also the drive came out of a working machine i will put it back in the machine and run a scan on the hdd
again thx for the help , will report back as soon as i know the results

This will not work as they are 2 different pc's with different hardware. If you do that, once you transfer the drive to a different pc it will either blue screen or will boot loop.

Does the machine you are installing on have a floppy drive? If so, disable it in the bios. I had to do that when installing 7 on my pc.
 
Did you change any settings in the BIOS?
If yes,reset the BIOS,load optimal defaults and then save changes.After that go to the BIOS again and put your CD/DVD-ROM drive as the first device to boot from and attempt to install Windows 7 again.

However be sure that you test your HDD.

Also in some cases,HDD needs to be COMPLETELY erased 100% in order to be able to install Windows 7.So use Kill Disk to do that and see if it will be able to completely format the HDD.If Kill Disk hangs also then something is wrong with your HDD or you have plugged your HDD cables incorrectly.

ok thx for the help guys but i changed the ide drive for a sata drive and managed to put win 7 32 bit on instead

it seems fine now , but still wont let me put 64bit on

maybe ill give it another try tomorrow , ill keep you posted
 
Happened with my computer, even though it was 32 bit installation.

I ejected the disk, then put it back in and left it for a minute or 2 then it worked, coulda just been luck but maybe give it a shot, or the install disk is corrupted.
 
I agree with claptonman.

If you have old hardware,your processor might not be compatible with 64-bit architecture and therefore 64-bit operating systems cannot be installed and used.
