Windows 7; install issues

ok, i finally got around to installing it or trying to. did the install off the CD but cant get it to complete the install. it goes through the whole setup and then says it needs to reboot to complete the install. it reboots then the whole screen is just black with nothing on it but my cursor. it does boot up as i can see it post, then the "starting windows" prompt with windows logo, then black screen.

i tried booting off the cd again, and the same thing happened. i tried booting from the hard drive and same thing. i booted off the hard drive in safe mode then it throws a error saying it cannot complete the install in safe mode. so it reboots then the black screen comes back up.

i then reformat it, and reinstalled it fresh only to have the same results. this is a 64 bit version if that makes any difference.


any ideas here?
 
They are. I run them externally for photo/video/music editing and tend to travel with them. So the only hooked up is the seagate and its internal.
 
Booted from the install disk, not as a upgrade. But as "custom" which runs as a fresh install, or at least says it does.
 
You have an LCD monitor.

Does it give an error message before it goes blank?

(Invalid Format)?

Do you have an old CRT monitor you could try?

Some resolutions are not supported by some LCD's
and you can't change the res unless you can see Windows.
 
Yes its an LCD. No errors are coming up.

I think it may be related to the video card. Its 2 years old so wouldn't support 7. So I'm gonna have to see if there is a update available to make it work with 7. If not I may just have to stick it out with xp for a little longer. At least that makes sense in my head...for now :)

Do you have a CRT just to try? It may just be the default res...

All you need to do is borrow one for 5 minutes.
 
Is this the first time installing Windows on this pc? If so, I think you are having memory (Ram) problems.
 
are you using the original windows 7 cd or just the beta?

I would recommend that you purchase the home premium of win7

i dont have a CRT anymore, got rid of them about a year ago.

no ive had XP running on it for over a year and a half and have reinstalled in a few times since the original install.

no i have not, and to tell you the truth wouldnt know how with out doing some searching or was given a quick run down how to.

it is not the original as we are not allowed by our company to use the originals for installs. but it is a copy of the original that has worked now on a few other 64 bit machines we have and was flawlessly installed. they were were all dell workstations, as opposed to my computer which I built.
 
I think its a ram issue.
out of the 8 gb ram, take out six of them and try to run the install on 2gb.
Also make sure the boot order on ur pc is set as Cd drive then the HDD.

Also try burning a fresh copy of the cd and install it again.
Let me know how it goes.
