Windows 7 Install Problem

Hey guys,

I have a Samsung R510 and it recently went dead, wouldn't boot up in safe mode and Samsung Recovery wasn't working. Took it to PC World and the chick said cause the code on my windows sticker was not longer visable it would be a case of buying Windows 7 and installing it. Now, I took her advice like a sap and installed the 64bit version. It worked and got to the desktop where my laptop ran out of battery (Charger problems). Tried to turn it back on again and now it's in a loop of trying to re-install Windows 7 and I constantly get a black screen without success. Theres no safe mode option (F8 doing nothing) and the best I get it to is the launching windows cd screen then nothing.

Any ideas what to do next? =/

It crashed initally. Then wouldn't boot up in safe mode or just normally. Tired pretty much everything before grabbing Windows 7. Like I said it installed. Got to the desktop then my battery went so I put it on charge and tried to boot it back up. Nothing.

EDIT: Just put the disc in, came up with loading windows file screen then onto the starting windows icon... Then a black screen, a mouse which can move but nothing else. Just does nothing, All I can think of it trying to put in the 32 bit version but I installed the 64 bit originally.

I am pretty sure it's your hard drive. If you can, find out who the make is (you can just look at the hard drive). Then google that make + bootable harddrive test, or something to that effect.

They normally supply free cd images that you can burn to a disk.

did you try to reinstall windows, cause you said the battery died while installing so maybe it wasnt finished.

and the not so funny part is that you could have used a cd to boot to the computer and recover your windows key number, write it down, download windows from microsoft and install from a thumbdrive and use your key and it would have been free.

Sorry for double post......

I get a screen saying "windows failed to start" with

File: \$WINDOWS.~BT\Windows\system32\winload.exe
Status: 0xc000000f

Dunno what that means. No luck with the bootable harddrive test Troncoso. What about buying a new HDD for it and using the Windows7 disc? the HDD just pops out of this which is handy

you're suposed to press F2,F4 etx. i forget which one, and boot from the cd before windows trys to start and if it says starting windows you didnt press the correct key and try again

Who manufactures the Hard drive?

It doesn't load whatever is on it at the moment anyway. I've got into F2 and changed it to boot from the CD but nothing, It either doesn't load the CD or doesn't load windows

Fujitsu 160gb is the HDD I have in it

Fujitsu MHZ2160BH G2 HDD

It sounds like the computer is a bit older? Here is a link to a diagnostic tool. Simply buying a new HDD is a solution, though, it's best not to waste money where you might not have to.

As far as the not booting issue goes. Try resetting the BIOS. I imagine it's a laptop, so just go into the BIOS and locate the "Load default configuration" or something to that effect.

On mine i have to press F11 to go to boot menu and select boot from cd or dvd, then it would bring up a menu asking if you want to install windows and stuff.
Also if you have the computer boot order: cd/dvd / harddrive , then if you have a windows cd/dvd in the drive it will say press anykey to boot from cd/dvd

even if you didnt have a harddrive or you had a bad harddrive it still should be able to boot from a cd/dvd and ask to install windows, that is what you have to find out how to do

I've resetted the BIOS and tried to run it without and with the Installation disc. Nothing there. Also the link doesn't work as I'm from UK, searching to find it on the UK server now. Well i'm gonna head back to PC World and ask for my money back and if they can kindly re-boot it on Vista, should do the trick. Other than that a new HDD for this laptop is £40 on Ebay

Yeah it does all that, I boot from CD then just stays on the "Loading Windows" screen.

Very strange but it's pissing me right off

When you say it went dead, what do you mean? It sounds like your hard drive is no good.

Yeah my mate looked over it and suggested the HDD is broke too. Ordered a new one for £40 and he'll grab me a version of Windows. Took the one I bought back since it didn't work =/

Cheers guys looks like I might be solving it with a cheap HDD Swap!

what i was thinking

Well it wouldn't even run the Windows CD. The CD Drive works so wasn't that. How can I get a hold of that boot up CD to read my key? It's worth a try like...
