Windows 7: no desktop after reinstall, just cursor

I've been having quite a few issues with my computer recently and after multiple reinstallions of graphics drivers they still screw up and games won't run anymore, so I decided to reinstall Windows 7 64bit. Most things on the install seemed to take quite a while to load, such as after it loaded the usual blue background my cursor would sit there for about 5 minutes until the menus would appear, and there were random pauses between a few of the first menus. After eventually getting through it all I was ready to boot up windows for the first time but once it did all that ended up appearing was a blank screen with my mouse cursor, which I can move around. I painfully reinstalled it again and the same thing occurred. I have now let it sit like this for over ten minutes and nothing has changed.

What's wrong and how do I fix it?

Realized I can move my cursor off screen and remembered my tv is hooked up, turned it to my computer's input and sure enough it was made my main display. Disregard this issue.

Yeah, feel rather retarded, though I have been up all night which may account for my slowness in realizing what was going on o.O

cut the guy some slack... we all have our moments of ill-intelligence, none of which we are proud to brag about. glad that everything is working okay for you, Kewl Munky.
