Windows 7 or Wait?

Well sparing everyone the full story, i have a 2 year old computer that needs a new mobo. The mobo is on it's way with some new ram. After doing some reading around i found out a fresh os install is best. The only problem with that is i have no os to install.

At the moment i have no pc and getting this one working seems to be the cheapest option. I am on a budget right now and would not be able to purchase windows 8 when it comes out if i purchase winodws 7 right now. My question is should i just wait untill windows 8 can be purchased or should i grab a full version of windows 7 now and purchase windows 8 when i can. I guess my last option is try to make the new mobo work. The processor will be used out of the old mobo in the new one if that is any help.

Any opinions or thoughts would be of big help. Thanks in advance.

Just get Windows 7. Going by what the Developer Previews and Consumer Previews have been like, Windows 8 is probably going to be an OS to avoid like the plague.

I agree with Spirit. Windows 8 is going to flop big time, so you're best off going with 7.

I don't think that you should wait for Windows 8, not because it "should be avoided like the plague" as spirit says, but because there aren't any compelling reasons to install Windows 8 over Win 7 (unless you happen to like the new Win 8 interface).

Windows 8 has better boot times than Win 7 and is slightly faster in certain areas but many people are put off by the new interface that offers a Start screen instead of a Start Menu and is optimized for touch screen devices.

Windows 8 seems to be aimed more at tablets than laptops and desktops. I have a feeling Microsoft are going to learn the hard way. Hopefully the next release will be more like 7.

Yeah this.
If you buy a computer with Win7 around this time, you can get Win8 for $15. I feel like there's a deal with just the software as well, but I can't find any links.
Windows seems to have a tick-tock release structure nowadays (much like Intel). Ticks appealing to enthusiasts and tocks appealing to noobs.
Tick = XP = Quite a performer.
Tock = Vista = Pretty, doesn't play nice with system resources.
Tick = Win7 = Pretty, performs admirably.
Tock = Win8 = Pretty, but over-simplified. Not as user-friendly to enthusiasts.

So i went ahead and decided to try to boot without a fresh install. It was restarting at the splash screen everytime. Tried safe mode still no go. Did a system restore and it fixed the problem. After making a few calls to Microsfot about the activation and ask a few questions it seems like it is activated right...i hope. So far no problems. I heard there can be driver broblems but all seems to be good so far.

My question is would it be smart to buy a new case? This may say sound silly since it is not a high performance build or anything. My worry is after upgrading the ram to DDR3 and having a new motherboard it may get hotter but i do not know. The main thing is the case has no fans in it. I am on a budget so i am gonna have to go cheapo. Anything for say around 50 dollars that would have better cooling than none haha.
