hey guys, im thinking about installing the windows 7 RC when it comes out on the 5th. i read somewhere that windows 7 will copy all the software and files you have on xp. is that true, because reinstalling everything is such a pain. lol

It depends on whether you "Upgrade" or do a "Fresh Install".

Upgrade would keep all your files and programs, but I'm not
sure that's available on the versions of Win 7 that have been
released. I've only done fresh installs.

According to the article listed by tremmor, if you have Windows XP or Windows 7 Beta already installed you'll have to do a clean install of Windows 7 RC. If you have Windows Vista your suppose to be able to just do an upgrade.

All I know is that windows 7 is worth re-installing everything. I would have traded the BETA for my XP if my mobo had supported vista.

Speaking from experience, I couldn't get Windows 7 to upgrade from XP for me so I don't think it is possible.
But I do know, if you have Vista, you can simply upgrade.

ok well i guess ill have to do a fresh install since im running XP. does anybody know if all my parts are supported? i have a dell vostro 400. im not sure what the mobo is so yeah. anybody have experience with 7 and dells?

There shouldn't be any issues. I know people running 7 on a system with a pentium 4
