Im about to make my first build and i obviously want win7 as the Os. I am in college so i can get the student discount, but when i go to order there's only an upgrade option which is

- Download + Backup Disc (64 bit) (Add $14.95)

Does this mean i can only use the student discount to upgrade from a previous windows os? meaning i cant use it on a new build?

No, you can use it on a new build. I've done it many times. Do the download thing. You don't really need a backup because you can burn it to many discs. Download the .iso and use a burning program to burn it to a DVD-R or RW, and boot to it.

THANK YOU SOO MUCH, couldnt find a question like this anywhere and that will definetly save me a lot of money haha.

You can do a Full install of Windows on a empty Hard Drive with a upgrade Disk. The internet has many tutorials on what you should do.

If its not too much to ask could you please link me to one? Because i have been looking for ages and cant find anything

I'm still really confused on this. Half of them say you need authentication of a previous microsoft OS. If i go to one computer with windows 7 on it, download the professional 64 bit upgrade, put it on a disc, i can use it on a pc i just made out of the box with no OS, literally nothing on it? I dont see how this is possible. A bunch of those results just say that you need a previous version of windows

Like I said, I have installed 7 on 3 different machines with the same .iso I got from that exact website. You'll have no problem.
