Windows 7 Reboot inquiry

Problem: Dell Inspiron 1545 Boot up Sequence
After the boot up sequence, with the Dell logo and F2 setup and F12 boot options; it turns to black screen and nothing....
So i wanted to load a Dell Reinstallation DVD for Win7 Home Premium SP1 (64 bit) disc onto the computer, however the disc wasn't sent to me for that computer; it was sent for a different computer which i dont own anymore.

So how do i load it onto the laptop, especially since when i press F2 or F12 and wait it does nothing but leads to a black screen....?
 
With the black screen after the post screen, it's either 1 of 2 things wrong with it.

1. Bad hard drive
2. MBR infection

First would be to check the drive for errors. What brand of drive is it?
 
I;m not quite sure the laptop is my brothers and i told him i would put Win7 back on for him. But without opening the back how would i find out.
 
Usually the bios will tell you the model number of the hard drive. You will have to check their if you don't want to open it up or you can't boot into windows.
 
The drive isn't hard to access. There should just be two screws holding it in place and it just slides out.
