A friend has asked me to help selling his old laptop.
I could not find anywhere I could restore this to factory settings.

Does anyone have any ideas on this.##Many thanks

You can try mashing the F12 key as the computer boots and this should take you to a "boot options" list which may have that option. Usually, though, different makes of computer have different key options to access the restore to factory options. So telling us what the make and model of the computer is would help.

Within Window 8 and newer there's just a built in Reset. Type it into Cortana/Search and it should walk you through it. "Reset this PC".

Laptop running Windows 7 should have a built in system recovery menu providing they didn't wipe the drive or the drive hasn't already died on them and they replaced it. The upgrade to windows 10 is still going on, you can upgrade it to 10 and then do a fresh install.
