Gentlemen,

For my own knowledge, what is the smallest amount of ram that windows 7 will run on? Actual experience please.

I ran windows xp pro on 256k and it ran quite well, better with more.

Thank You

Ken

the very smallest i tryed it with was 512mb i only tried it see how it was, it did run it but like crap, really REALLY slow, id say 1gb or above for 32 bit and 3gb or above for 64 bit.

With all my programs closed and only catalyst and antivirus running in my background on windows home premium 64bit oem, about 900mb of my 2gigs are being used.

I hope you mean 256MB

Windows will use more or less ram depending on how much you have. If you only have a gig of ram then your computer will probably use less just doing nothing.

I've run 7 x64 in a VM on my laptop (Turion RM-72) with only 1GB allocated to it and it ran, albeit slowly. On a dedicated machine it would probably be faster, and definitely with better hardware.
