Windows 7 Upgrade and Family Pack version

I have some questions regarding the upgrade version of Win7.

  1. If I get the family pack upgrade version (valid for use on 3 computers, and costs $149), can I upgrade from XP and Vista alike? I mean, can I simply put in the disc while a valid windows version is running, and then do the "clean install" method after that?
  2. I have two computers at home - one runs XP in German!! and the other Vista in English. If I get the upgrade in English, can I use it on the German XP system? If so, I assume it will end up being a Win7 English version.
  3. Will the retail or OEM status of the earlier version of windows remain after installing an upgrade version of Win7?

Yes, not only that, but that's the idea ;)

Yes, basically backup first, because you can even do a clean install

No, if you have bought Windows 7 Retail, it will not be OEM software anymore

Oh wow, you answered "yes" to question 2. It surprises me that I can upgrade a german windows version with an english upgrade disc.

The Windows 7 upgrade disc has all the files that are on the full version
Except that it prompt you for the previous version of licenced Windows

Also, by the way manuufactures are selling Upgrade discs with their new systems, this then will still remain OEM

it still surprises me that it will allow you to upgrade an older version of windows that is in a different language. I know that for example you can only upgrade a 32-bit version to a 32-bit version etc., and so I thought I would be required to have a german upgrade version to upgrade an german system and then an english version to upgrade an english system. But, it's nice if the language does not play a role in the upgrade.

They only speak of Home to Home (etc)
They don't say Home English to Home English (Not that I'm aware of, but now I'm getting concerned lol :D )
