I got my copy of Windows 7 Home Pre 64bit. I reinstalled my current OS witch is Vista Home Pre 64bit and when I try to upgrade from vista to windows 7 home pre 64 bit, I get this error saying that I am trying to upgrade from a 32bit OS to a 64bit os when yet I have a 64bit OS installed. I can NOT do a clean install of 7 beacuse my key is a upgrade key. Any help will be great, Thanks in advance!

Here are the screen shots of the errors:

This shows my current vista install:

Did you run the upgrade cd from windows? I tried this and i got a similar error. I changed my boot priority and booted from the upgrade dvd and it installed just as though it were a normal copy, rather than an upgrade!

Maybe you should try this?

Also - you said you can't do a fresh install because your key is for an upgrade. Have you actually tried it? Because my key (and DVD) is for an upgrade and mine worked!

Good luck

Yes you can.

Boot from the disc, Install, Custom (advanced), select your current partition, Format, Next.

This will back up the data currently in your Vista OS and create a WINDOWS.OLD folder that you can access after installing Windows 7.

Once you root around in the WINDOWS.OLD folder and get all the data you need, you can delete it.
