Windows 7 vs. Windows Vista

I'm currently on Windows XP Professional. I feel like moving onto something better.

Which is OS better? Windows 7 or Windows Vista?

My computer specs are:
- Intel P4 2.80ghz
- 1gb of RAM

I usually listen to music alot, and make music (music production), sometimes play games here and there and always online.

What OS would best suit me and what version? I'm looking for a good stable OS, that is fast and supports everything.

Windows 7 is far better than Vista. No question on which to go with. You might want to look up the different versions of 7. However, I feel that Home Premium would be OK.

Like he said 7 is way better than Vista,Its just more efficient.

think of it like Windows Xp performance,But with all the added security,DX10/11 features and other nice things.

It will run okay on that system but its a bit outdated,You might get better performance if you add another gig of ram.

Thanks guy, deciding to go with Windows 7 Ultimate, but 32-bit or 64-bit? But I don't think my processor supports 64-bit, who can confirm this? I have Pentium 4 (Northwood).

What is the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit, pro's and con's?

Do you realy need the "Ultimate" features?...Home premium should be fine. :)

You will get the 32bit and 64bit cd when you buy windows 7 so its your choice,Not sure if your P4 is 64 bit,You will have to check Cpu-z.

Yeah windows 7 is definitely faster than vista, but is in no way a way to speed boost your computer over xp. You need to get something with at least a dual core.

i had windows vista with a alesis usb 2.0 mixer driver and it would not work even with the compatability set to XP SP2, which was the requirements, i have 7 atmo everything worksfine and i even get the clip function, lol I'm a PC and WINDOWS 7 was my IDEA. lol

Alright so which is better 32bit or 64bit - what are the differences? - Pro and cons

64 bit can run 64 bit programs faster than the same program would run 32 bit but can't run some programs made before XP existed. I've used 64 for years and haven't come across anything it can't run.

I don't know much about P4s but I doubt it's 64 bit compatible though.

Hello Christian,

I will tell you from first hand experience, all of my systems have been converted to Windows 7. I am not just saying it to say because I am affiliated with Microsoft. I can truly stand behind this product and tell you straight away it works very reliably, fast and extremely stable. The 64bit version is a real powerhouse as well.
Anyways, what to say about Windows 7?
There are several new features that are available with Windows 7 that will assist you with deployment and management of a large number of workstations. Enterprise IT infrastructures are increasingly complex to manage. The Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) is a dynamic desktop solution that is available as a subscription for Software Assurance customers. The solution suite enhances application deployment and compatibility, increases IT responsiveness and end user uptime, and helps reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) of your desktop software and IT management. To learn more about this package, please go here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/enterprise/products/mdop/default.aspx
Also now available is MDT 2010 (Microsoft Deployment Tool) which will help you create images and automate the OS and application installations, data migration, and desktop configuration process. To learn more, please go here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744519(WS.10).aspx
Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum specifically for IT Pros located here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/category/w7itpro/ . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to also check the threads available there for additional assistance and feedback.
Also, if you would like to read what other users have said about their positive experience with Windows 7, you may want to check out the following sites: http://www.winsupersite.com/ and http://www.edbott.com/weblog/

64bit better if your system support.

i would also wait if your not using a dual or quad core minimum. lot better memory management and needed for 64 bit if ya want to see it. XP pro is good. love it and still have on 3 computers. mine is 64 windows 7 pro.
might want to wait until the next purchase or build. bank it for later.

If you wish to use RAM more than 4 GB, use 64bit OS otherwise 32bit is ok.32bit OS won't detect or employ more than 4 GB of RAM.
