Hello,

I am running Windows Seven Professional edition on a Sony VGN-NR110FH. I installed Windows Seven through a flash drive. Now I'm planning to install Windows Xp the same way. But when I try install, it gives me lots of options, something like, "1st, (text here)" then "2nd, ....". I press on the first one and it starts loading the Windows Xp setup and then when I come to the part were it asks me were I want to install Windows, the only drive I see is the flash drive. Why is this. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,
Ali J.

Your computer is most likely running in either ahci or raid mode in the bios. Since windows 7 is already installed you can't change the setting or it won't boot. You will have to slipstream the sata controller driver into new install cd so that the install can actually see the drive.

And if you're going to dual-boot XP and 7, you need to install XP first on a clean drive and THEN install 7. With what you're trying you won't be able to boot into 7 again once XP is installed and the XP boot manager takes over.

And as far as the SATA driver goes, if you have a floppy drive (or even an external floppy) just download the driver to the floppy and when it says "Press F6 to install SCSI or RAID devices" press it and allow it to load. It'll then ask you what driver you want to use.

surely you once the install is complete (assumin the sata driver is the problem) and is using the xp bootloader you can then just use a third party bootloader like grub

http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/

to customize your bootloader and have both xp and 7 on dual boot, thats how i did it, or am i missing something
